I'm having trouble getting shaft to line up with left arm.

If you just take your grip in the front (left hand for right hander), the shaft should be just under the “pad” of the little finger.  Then, if you just use that one arm to move the club out in front of you from left to right… and squeeze a little, and don't let the wrist hinge... the shaft should line up with the arm.  Lining up the shaft with the arm, gives it the most strength and length, for a solid shot at impact.  Once you feel the shaft in line with the front arm, then add your back (right hand) to the grip, WITHOUT changing the shaft.  If you can learn to setup and swing with that look, you’ll get the benefits.
